EMAT Exam Syllabus 2026
Nothing on the IIM Kozhikode (IIMK) admission pages lists an EMAT exam syllabus. The admission policy says only that the test checks basic logical, numerical and verbal ability. So the EMAT exam syllabus 2027 can be read only from the official EMAT sample papers. Those papers are from 2023. This page lists what they contain. It is not an official EMAT exam syllabus.

What is the EMAT exam syllabus for 2027?
IIMK has not published the EMAT 2027 syllabus. The nearest official guide is the set of EMAT sample papers on the IIMK website. Read them as a hint about topics, not as a promise of what the IIM Kozhikode EMAT will ask.
Is the EMAT syllabus the same as the CAT syllabus?
IIMK has not said so. The EPGP Kochi FAQ calls the EMAT broadly similar to tests such as the CAT and the GMAT. That is a similarity of type, not an official match of topics.

Not in the IIMK sample papers. IIM Kashipur's 2020 sample paper has a General Knowledge section, but that is a different test.

EMAT 2027 Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus: Topics and Weightage
Quantitative Aptitude is the first group in every IIMK sample paper. This part of the EMAT exam syllabus has no official topic weightage. The EPGP Kochi samples give it 20 of 60 questions, and the EPGP-IL sample gives it about 15 of 40.
The sample papers contain these topics.
- Arithmetic: averages, profit and discount, time and work, speed and distance, simple and compound interest.
- Ratio and mixtures: ratio, mixtures, boats and streams, pipes and tanks.
- Number system: divisibility and HCF.
- Algebra and series: arithmetic progression.
- Counting and chance: permutation and combination, and probability.
- Geometry: square and circle.
- Calendars and clocks.
None of these topics is stated as part of an official EMAT exam syllabus. They show only what past samples asked.
EMAT 2027 Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning Syllabus: Topics and Weightage
Data interpretation and logical reasoning form the second group in the IIMK samples. This part of the EMAT exam syllabus has no official weightage. The Kochi samples give it Questions 21 to 40, and the EPGP-IL sample gives it about 15 questions.

- Number series.
- Syllogism-type statements: a few statements followed by conclusions to test.
- Data tables: questions based on figures in a table.
- Seating and puzzle sets: arrangement questions with a set of conditions.
The EPGP Kochi FAQ mentions 60 questions on logical reasoning, in addition to numerical, data interpretation and verbal skills. The sentence is loosely worded. So this page does not use it to split the groups.
EMAT 2027 Verbal Ability Syllabus: Topics and Weightage
Verbal ability is the third group in the IIMK samples. This part of the EMAT exam syllabus has no official weightage. The Kochi samples give it Questions 41 to 60. The EPGP-IL sample gives it 10 questions, from Question 31 to 40.

- Word and sentence tasks: odd one out and sentence completion.

All sample papers of the IIM Kozhikode EMAT are in English. IIMK has not stated the language of the live test in words.

The EPGP-IL numbers are approximate, because the sample is an image PDF. A fair way to use the EMAT exam syllabus table is to treat every group as important. The minimum EMAT mark is set as a share of the total marks, so a weak group costs marks.
EMAT 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
IIMK has not published the EMAT exam pattern or the marking scheme for EPGP-IL. For EMAT 2027, the number of questions, the duration and the total marks are unconfirmed. So is negative marking.
For EPGP Kochi, the FAQ says there are 60 questions. The test typically runs for one hour, with no negative marks. The samples are multiple choice with four options. The EMAT exam pattern page explains each point.
EMAT Syllabus 2027: Previous Year Topic Trends
IIMK publishes no past live EMAT papers, so no year-wise topic trend can be stated for the IIM Kozhikode EMAT. The four EMAT sample papers, all dated 2023, are the only official guide.
The groups of the EMAT exam syllabus are the same across the samples. They are quantitative, data interpretation with logical reasoning, and verbal ability. No EMAT syllabus 2026 was published, so no change can be shown from one year to the next. IIMK says in its FAQ that it may change the entrance tests as it deems appropriate. Check iimk.ac.in again when the 2027 batch opens.
How to Prepare for EMAT 2027 as per the Syllabus
Prepare all three groups of the EMAT exam syllabus for EMAT 2027. IIMK publishes no weightage, and it sets the EMAT cutoff as a share of the total marks. For EPGP-IL batch 19, the minimum is 35% for General candidates, as per the IIMK admission policy.
Follow these steps if you work full time.
- Solve one official sample paper without help, and mark which topics you could not do.
- List the topics from this page that you have not studied since college.
- Study one topic at a time and solve 10 to 15 questions on it before moving on.
- Practise vocabulary and reading comprehension daily, since verbal ability is a full group in every sample.
- Keep the last two weeks for full timed samples. IIMK has not published the real duration, so use one hour as a practice guess.
You can skip EMAT preparation if you hold a valid CAT, GMAT or GRE score at IIMK's minimums. These are 75 percentile in CAT, 700 in GMAT and the GRE scores set in the policy.
