EMAT Exam 2026: Dates, Registration, Eligibility, Pattern, Admit Card & Result

The EMAT exam is not a national entrance test. It is the screening test of IIM Kozhikode (IIMK) for its executive MBA. IIMK now calls this programme MBA for Working Executives. It was earlier called the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP). IIM Kashipur runs a separate test with the same name for its own Executive MBA. Do not mix up the two.

IIMK has not announced the EMAT exam 2027 dates yet. The latest cycle is EPGP batch 19 (2026-28), and its last EMAT exam dates were 4 and 10 October 2026.

The EMAT exam, also called the IIM Kozhikode EMAT, is the Executive Management Aptitude Test of IIMK. IIMK uses it to filter applicants for its executive MBA. As per the IIMK admission policy for the EPGP 19th batch, the test checks basic logical, numerical and verbal ability.

EPGP means Executive Post Graduate Programme. IIMK now calls the same programme "MBA for Working Executives". The degree is a Master of Business Administration from IIM Kozhikode. This page uses the name EPGP because the IIMK admission portal still uses it.

Is the EMAT exam a national exam?

No. The IIM Kozhikode EMAT is an in-house test of one institute. IIMK designs and evaluates it, and uses the score only for its own programmes. Nothing IIMK publishes names any other institute that accepts the EMAT exam score.

Which IIM Kozhikode programmes use the EMAT exam?

Two programmes use it: EPGP-IL and EPGP Kochi. EPGP-IL is the "MBA for Working Executives (IL - Kozhikode)". Its live classes run from classroom centres across India, with three in-campus modules at Kozhikode.

EPGP Kochi is the "MBA for Working Executives (Kochi Campus)". It has its own admissions and its own classes at Infopark, Kakkanad, Kochi. IIMK states that the admission and class schedules of the two programmes are independent. Admissions for Kochi 2026-28 are closed, and IIMK says admissions for 2027-29 "will commence soon".

Is the IIM Kashipur EMAT the same as the IIM Kozhikode EMAT?

No. They are two different tests from two different institutes. IIM Kashipur runs its own Executive Management Aptitude Test for its Executive MBA at the Dehradun campus. As per its 2027-29 brochure, the application closes on 23 December 2026. The test is on 26 December 2026, and the interview is on 27 December 2026. Classes start in July 2027.

A score from one test is not stated to count for the other. Every fact on this page is about the IIM Kozhikode EMAT unless the text says IIM Kashipur.

What Is EMAT: Frequently Asked Questions

IIMK has not announced any EMAT exam date for 2027. The confirmed EMAT exam dates are for EPGP batch 19 (2026-28). It ran in four phases, with two EMAT dates in each. The table shows the phase dates as listed on the IIMK admission page.

For Phase IV, the IIMK policy PDF lists only 4 October 2026. The admission page lists both dates, and both have passed.

What is the EMAT exam date for 2027?

The EMAT exam 2027 date is not announced. IIMK has not published the batch 20 (2027-29) policy or phase calendar for EPGP-IL. EPGP Kochi only says that 2027-29 admissions will start soon. Treat any EMAT 2027 date that does not come from iimk.ac.in as unconfirmed.

In 2026, applications for the first phase opened on 16 March. That is a past pattern, not a promise for 2027. IIM Kashipur is the exception: its EMAT is on 26 December 2026, for classes starting in July 2027.

The EMAT exam is a one-institute screening test for a working-professional MBA. The EMAT exam highlights below are the facts IIMK has confirmed for the latest cycle, EPGP batch 19 (2026-28). Facts for the EMAT exam 2027 may change once IIMK announces batch 20.

Is the EMAT exam held online?

Yes, for EPGP-IL. The IIMK FAQ says the EMAT and the Personal Interview (PI) are conducted online. IIMK has not published the webcam, device or browser rules for the test.

EMAT exam eligibility for 2027 is not yet published. The latest rule is for EPGP-IL batch 19. It needs a bachelor's degree with at least 50% aggregate and three full years of work experience after graduation.

The minimum degree marks change by category.

Holders of CA, ICWA or CS without a bachelor's degree need 50% in all categories. These figures are from the IIMK admission policy for the EPGP 19th batch. Check this EMAT exam eligibility rule again when IIMK opens the 2027 cycle.

How many years of work experience are needed for the EMAT exam?

You need three full years, which IIMK counts as 1095 days. IIMK counts the days from the date you complete graduation. The count ends on the date applications close in your phase. Managerial, entrepreneurial and professional work all count. Internships and apprenticeships do not count.

IIMK takes the earliest of three dates as your graduation date. These are the provisional certificate date, the original degree certificate date and the convocation date. You must declare your full employment history, not only the last three years.

Is there an age limit or an attempt limit for the EMAT exam?

IIMK states no upper age limit for EPGP Kochi. It gives no age rule for EPGP-IL on the pages checked. IIMK has not published any limit on the number of EMAT attempts.

Who gets the ten dedicated seats?

Ten seats in batch 19 were kept for applicants with distinguished accomplishment. They applied by email, and the last date in 2026 was 17 August. IIMK has not said if this route stays for 2027.

There is no separate EMAT registration. You apply to the programme on the IIMK admission portal, and the EMAT exam is part of that application. The EMAT 2027 application has not opened.

For EPGP-IL, the EMAT registration steps on the IIMK help page are these.

1. Open the IIMK EPGP admission page and tick the two self-check boxes on education and work experience eligibility.
2. Enter your mobile number, click Register and verify the SMS OTP.
3. Enter your email, or generate an email OTP, and complete registration.
4. Log in with an email OTP or SMS OTP and fill in the application form.
5. Upload your documents and pay the application fee online.

You need scanned originals of your degree certificates. IIMK does not accept provisional certificates as proof of education. You also need experience proof and an employer reference letter. If you claim OBC-NCL, EWS or SC/ST status, you need a category certificate issued after 1 January 2026.

IIMK publishes no EMAT admit card. It sends the test date and time to shortlisted candidates after the registration closes. The test is online, and IIMK publishes no hall ticket.

The IIMK policy says the details "will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates after the registration closure date". The EPGP Kochi FAQ says applicants get an email with the date and time of the test and interview.

What if I do not get the EMAT test details?

Write to the EPGP-IL admission team at epgpadmission@iimk.ac.in. IIMK has not published an EMAT-specific complaint process. It also has not published ID rules, prohibited items or system checks for the online test. See the EMAT admit card page for what IIMK says about entry.

IIMK has not published the EMAT exam pattern for EPGP-IL. The number of questions, the duration, the total marks and the marking scheme are all missing from the IIMK pages.

The two figures that exist belong to other documents and cannot be copied across.

The Kochi figures are from an undated FAQ page. The 2023 EPGP-IL sample paper has 40 questions. IIMK says it may change the entrance tests. So the EMAT exam pattern for 2027 may differ. Treat these figures as guides only. For IIM Kashipur, the old sample paper shows 60 questions in 60 minutes, which is a different test.

IIMK gives one timing fact for EPGP-IL. Candidates with a disability get a compensatory time extension of 20 minutes per hour of the test.

The official sample papers show the EMAT exam pattern as multiple-choice questions with four options each, grouped into three areas. The areas are Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability.

The EPGP-IL sample paper (2023) has 40 questions. The three EPGP Kochi sample papers (2023) have 60 questions each. In the Kochi samples, Questions 1 to 20 are Quantitative Aptitude. Questions 21 to 40 are Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation. Questions 41 to 60 are English Language and Verbal Ability.

None of the sample papers shows marks per question, instructions or an answer key. The IIMK FAQ says the samples come from tests held in earlier years. Read the EMAT Exam Question Pattern page for the section-wise detail.

IIMK has published no official EMAT syllabus or topic list. The only official statement is that the EMAT exam checks basic logical, numerical and verbal ability.

What you can study for the EMAT syllabus comes from the official EMAT sample papers, which are from 2023. They show these areas.

• Quantitative (arithmetic): number system, averages, profit and discount, time and work, speed and distance, interest, ratio, mixtures.
• Quantitative (counting and geometry): permutation and combination, probability, geometry, calendars and clocks.
• Reasoning and data: number series, syllogism-type statements, data tables, seating and puzzle sets.
• Verbal: synonyms and antonyms, error spotting, odd one out, sentence completion, reading comprehension.

This list shows what past samples contained. It is not an official EMAT syllabus, and IIMK has not published topic weightage. See the EMAT syllabus page for the topic groups.

IIMK publishes no public EMAT results or scorecard. So there are no EMAT results to download. It also publishes no rank, percentile or list of toppers. A candidate who meets the EMAT cutoff is considered eligible for the next stage, which is the Personal Interview.

What happens after the EMAT exam?

After the EMAT exam, IIMK calls shortlisted candidates for a Personal Interview before a panel of IIMK faculty. The panel looks at five things.

• Communication and aptitude.
• Academic efforts.
• Quality and length of work experience.
• General and business awareness.
• Managerial or leadership competence.

After the interview, IIMK prepares a merit list and releases offers by email on the phase date. You accept the offer by paying the confirmation fee of ₹1,00,000 by the phase deadline. IIMK has not published a date for EMAT results. The offer release date of each phase is the nearest official date.

The EMAT cutoff is the minimum score you need in the EMAT exam to be called for the interview. IIMK sets it as a percentage of the total marks. There is no section-wise cutoff and no institute-wise cutoff.

The EMAT 2027 cut-off marks will be known only when IIMK publishes the batch 20 policy. The interview minimum is on standardised marks. IIMK warns that scoring only the minimum does not mean admission. It can also change cut-off scores at its discretion, so the 2027 numbers may differ. See the EMAT cutoff page for more.

The EMAT 2027 selection process is not announced. The latest one, for batch 19, has three stages: shortlisting on eligibility, then the EMAT, then the Personal Interview. The merit list adds the EMAT exam score (40% weightage) and the interview score (60% weightage). The IIMK policy says the work experience score is also part of the merit list.

Do I need the EMAT exam if I have a CAT, GMAT or GRE score?

No, if your score meets IIMK's minimum and is not older than three years on 17 May 2026. A valid score replaces the EMAT, and the merit list then uses that score at the same 40% weightage. These are the minimums for batch 19.

The 17 May 2026 date is the first EMAT date of batch 19. IIMK has not published the score age rule for a 2027 batch. The old EPGP Kochi brochure used one year for GMAT and GRE scores. Check the rule again when IIMK announces the next cycle.

EMAT vs GMAT: which one should a working professional take?

The EMAT vs GMAT choice depends on your score. With a GMAT of 700 or more inside the three-year limit, you can skip the EMAT exam for EPGP-IL. If your GMAT is lower, the EMAT vs GMAT question is simple: take the EMAT. IIMK calls the EMAT broadly similar to GMAT-style tests, but the EMAT score is used only by IIMK.
