Syllabus

This page lists the UCEED 2027 syllabus topics exactly as IIT Bombay publishes them. It also states clearly what that list does not promise.

UCEED Syllabus 2027 PDF: Download Complete Syllabus

IIT Bombay does not publish a standalone file called the "UCEED syllabus PDF." The topic descriptions instead sit inside one section of the official UCEED Information Brochure. This single yearly document also carries eligibility rules, the exam pattern, and admission details for UCEED 2027.

No separate syllabus PDF exists

The syllabus lives inside the official UCEED Information Brochure, not as its own document. The brochure itself is genuine and downloadable from the official UCEED website once released for a given year.

The UCEED 2026 brochure, the most recently published one, is real and was downloadable from the official UCEED website, www.uceed.iitb.ac.in. IIT Bombay had not yet released the UCEED 2027 brochure. The official site stated that full 2027 details, including any update to this syllabus wording, would follow by 1 October 2026.

UCEED Syllabus 2027: Highlights

Most entrance exams publish a syllabus and treat it as final. UCEED does not work that way, and it says so in its own brochure. The most recently published wording, from the UCEED 2026 Information Brochure, states plainly that its topic list is not complete.

IIT Bombay does not publish a fixed checklist for the UCEED exam 2027 on 17 January 2027. Instead, it publishes broad topic descriptions, decided each year by its UCEED-CEED Office. These descriptions carry an explicit disclaimer.

UCEED's own syllabus disclaimer

The UCEED 2026 Information Brochure states: "These topics are exhaustive and indicative of the nature of the questions. However, UCEED 2026 may not cover all the above mentioned topics." This is the most recently published wording. UCEED 2027's own brochure was not yet released.

Do not memorise this list like a fixed syllabus. Treat each topic as a description of the kind of thinking UCEED 2027 tests, not a chapter to complete and forget.

UCEED 2027 Part A Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

UCEED 2027's Part A carries seven broad topic groups in total. This section covers the first two, in IIT Bombay's exact wording. One clarification first: "weightage" here does not mean fixed marks per topic. UCEED assigns marks by question format: NAT, MSQ and MCQ, not by topic. So no official document states how many marks come from any single topic below.

Visualization and spatial reasoning: the UCEED 2026 brochure defines this as "the ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships." In plain terms, this means picturing shapes in your head. Think of how a flat pattern folds into a solid, or how an object looks when rotated.

Practical and scientific knowledge: defined officially as "know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects." This covers basic science understanding applied to ordinary things around you, not textbook-style physics or chemistry chapters.

Both topics sit inside Part A, the computer-based portion of the UCEED 2027 exam. For how Part A's marks actually break down by question type, see the pattern recap later here.

UCEED 2027 Analytical and Awareness Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

Three more Part A topic groups round out UCEED 2027's syllabus on analysis and general awareness. Here too, it uses IIT Bombay's own wording.

Observation and design sensitivity: officially, "capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically." Its components are attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction. This is about noticing what others overlook and reasoning through it, not memorising facts.

Environment and society: defined as "general awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design." It asks how design choices relate to the world around them, not isolated general-knowledge trivia.

Analytical and logical reasoning: officially "the ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information." This reads closer to a reasoning skill than a fixed topic, tested through both numbers and non-numeric information.

None of these three groups carries a published weightage either. UCEED 2027 states its marks by question format, a distinction the exam pattern section below explains.

UCEED 2027 Language, Creativity and Part B Syllabus: Topics and Weightage

The last two Part A groups, plus both Part B topics, complete UCEED 2027's official syllabus.

Language: the brochure defines this as "proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English." IIT Bombay lists it as a separate topic from Creativity, not merged with it.

Creativity: officially, "grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols." This tests how you connect ideas and images, not artistic skill by itself.

Part B is where UCEED 2027 changes format entirely. It is paper-based, answered by hand, and carries two subjective topics instead of objective questions.

Drawing: defined as the "ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion, with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading." Two or more trained examiners evaluate each answer by hand.

Design aptitude: officially, "capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy." Like Drawing, it is scored subjectively, not through a fixed answer key.

Together, Language, Creativity, Drawing and Design aptitude complete the four remaining groups. Add the five from the two sections above, and UCEED 2027's syllabus totals nine official topic groups. None of them carries a stated per-topic weightage.

UCEED 2027 Syllabus: Section-Wise Important Topics

This groups the same official wording by where each topic sits in the UCEED 2027 exam. Nothing here goes beyond what IIT Bombay itself has published.

Visualization and spatial reasoning (Part A)

Official wording: "ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships." This is a mental-imagery skill: recognising how a shape changes when rotated, unfolded, or viewed from a different angle.

Practical and scientific knowledge (Part A)

Official wording: "know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects." This leans on how things around you actually work, not on solving numerical physics or chemistry problems.

Observation and design sensitivity (Part A)

Official wording: "capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically." This covers attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.

Environment and society (Part A)

Official wording: "general awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design." This connects design decisions to the wider world they sit in.

Analytical and logical reasoning (Part A)

Official wording: "ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information." A reasoning skill tested through both numeric and non-numeric material.

Language (Part A)

Official wording: "proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English." Kept as its own topic, separate from Creativity.

Creativity (Part A)

Official wording: "grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols." Tests how you link ideas and images, not drawing skill.

Drawing (Part B)

Official wording: "ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion, with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading." Answered by hand and evaluated manually by two or more examiners.

Design aptitude (Part B)

Official wording: "capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy." Also hand-answered and manually evaluated, with no answer key since it is subjective.

Read together, these nine descriptions, seven from Part A and two from Part B, are the entire official UCEED 2027 syllabus. IIT Bombay has not published anything more granular than this, for any year checked.

UCEED 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The syllabus above only tells you what UCEED 2027 tests. How those topics turn into marks is a separate, more detailed subject. It is covered fully on the UCEED exam pattern 2027 page. Here is the short version.

200

Part A marks

NAT, MSQ, MCQ combined, UCEED 2026 cycle

100

Part B marks

Drawing and Design aptitude, UCEED 2026 cycle

300

Total marks

UCEED 2026 cycle, single 3-hour sitting

Part A is computer-based and carries three question formats. NAT questions carry no negative marking. MSQ questions use a partial-credit scheme. MCQ questions carry a negative marking of 0.71 marks for each wrong answer. Part B is paper-based, answered by hand, and evaluated manually rather than through an answer key. These figures are from the UCEED 2026 cycle, the most recently published one. UCEED had not released 2027-specific pattern figures.

UCEED does not test the same topics in the same proportion every year. Its own exam archive shows this changes.

The pattern itself has shifted before

Question counts, marking values and even the Part-B answering mode have changed across past UCEED cycles. Topic emphasis follows the pattern. So treat any given year's balance as a snapshot, not a fixed rule for UCEED 2027.

No official document breaks down how many questions came from each topic in past years. So this page will not invent a frequency table. UCEED has revised its exam structure between cycles more than once. This is the one confirmed pattern. UCEED 2027 candidates should prepare across all the concepts described above for this reason. Do not bet on one topic repeating at a fixed rate.

How to Prepare for UCEED 2027 as per the Syllabus

UCEED does not publish a mock test or a sample paper. Real past exam papers are the best practice material instead.

IIT Bombay's official Downloads page publishes actual UCEED question papers and their final answer keys. These cover every year from 2015 through 2026. That is over a decade of genuine past papers. It is more raw practice material than many exams offer, even ones that run mock tests.

  1. Step 1

    Solve untimed first

Work through one full official UCEED paper without a clock, focusing on understanding each topic group above rather than speed.

  2. Step 2

Check Part A against the final answer key

UCEED releases a final answer key for Part A only, so self-check NAT, MSQ and MCQ answers directly against it.

  3. Step 3

Get Part B evaluated by someone else

Drawing and Design aptitude have no answer key since they are subjective. Ask a teacher or mentor to review them the way UCEED's examiners would.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat across multiple years

UCEED's pattern has shifted between cycles. Solving several different years exposes you to a wider range of question styles than any single paper would.

UCEED 2027's own syllabus wording is not yet out, so this practice-first approach matters more than usual. It prepares you for the kind of thinking IIT Bombay tests, not for a topic list. That topic list might read a little differently once the 2027 brochure is released. For the papers themselves, see UCEED previous year question papers.

Commonly asked questions
