UCEED Cutoff 2026

Cutoff

A UCEED cutoff works through two separate mechanisms. A statistical formula decides who qualifies past Part-A. A separate All India Rank then decides who actually gets a seat. UCEED admission runs on this rank, not on a percentile or a published score. IIT Bombay does not publish a public, institute-wise closing-rank table for UCEED, for any year. This is simply how the exam works, not a research gap here.

Every candidate who sits UCEED in January runs into both halves of this system. This happens well before the B.Des counselling rounds even open. The formula decides if your Part-A score clears the first bar. Your rank comes only after that, and it decides which of the seven UCEED institutes you can actually get into.

Searching for a single "UCEED cutoff for IIT Bombay" number will not turn one up. IIT Bombay does not publish one. This page explains the rank and qualifying-formula system that exists in its place.

UCEED Cutoff 2027: Key Highlights

IIT Bombay runs UCEED nationally, on behalf of all seven institutes that admit through it. It also sets the rules for both halves of the cutoff system. IIT Bombay has scheduled UCEED 2027 for 17 January 2027. This is the only 2027-specific detail confirmed so far. The formula and the rank process will work the same way they have in recent cycles.

How UCEED cutoff actually works

Admission runs on your All India Rank, not a percentile. Before UCEED works out any rank, a separate statistical formula decides who even qualifies on Part-A marks. And IIT Bombay does not publish a public, institute-wise or category-wise closing-rank table for UCEED, for any year.

Two things underpin the whole system. One is a formula, worked out fresh every year from that year's own results. The next section covers it in full detail. The other is a genuine gap. No official closing-rank number exists for you to look up in advance, for any institute, any category, any year. The UCEED 2027 overview page has the full 2027 exam calendar and eligibility rules. UCEED 2027 Expected Cutoff: Institute-Wise Score

This heading usually points to an institute-by-institute score table. UCEED does not work that way. There is one national qualifying formula, applied once to that year's Part-A marks, not seven separate institute-wise cutoffs. This formula matters more than any single number. It is the only officially confirmed cutoff mechanism UCEED actually has.

Part-A carries 200 marks, split across three question types (NAT, MSQ and MCQ). Every candidate's Part-A score sits somewhere on that 0 to 200 scale. IIT Bombay's official brochure sets out a statistical threshold called delta. UCEED recalculates delta fresh from that year's own Part-A results every cycle:

  • OPEN category: delta = mean + half the standard deviation of that year's Part-A marks.
  • OBC-NCL and EWS: 0.9 x delta.
  • SC, ST and PwD: 0.5 x delta.

Two terms need unpacking here for a first-time reader. The "mean" is simply the average Part-A score across every candidate that year. The "standard deviation" measures how spread out those scores are around that average. A wide spread means scores varied a lot. A narrow spread means most candidates clustered close together. Delta uses both.

This formula has no fixed percentage anywhere in it. UCEED does not say "you need 40% to qualify" the way many other entrance exams do. Instead, mean and standard deviation get recalculated from scratch, every single year, from that year's actual Part-A results. A tougher paper with lower scores overall produces a different delta than an easier one would. Source: UCEED Information Brochure, Section 17, and its official FAQ (Q22).

UCEED's 2027 brochure, due by 1 October 2026, will confirm this same mechanism again. This is the formula UCEED has used across its recent published cycles. There is no indication of a change for 2027. The exact mean and standard deviation will not exist until that year's own Part-A results are in.

UCEED 2027 Cutoff: Category-Wise Details

UCEED's category system does two different jobs. Mixing them up is the most common confusion around this topic. One job is the qualifying-cutoff relaxation, the multiplier from the formula above. The other is seat reservation. This is a completely separate rule about how many of the 245 total B.Des seats each category holds. Neither one changes the other.

The OPEN category faces the full formula: delta = mean + half the standard deviation of that year's Part-A marks. Say a given year's average Part-A score works out to some value M. The spread around that average is S. An OPEN candidate then needs to clear roughly M plus half of S. No fixed reservation share applies to OPEN. It competes for whatever seats remain once every other category has taken its share.

UCEED's own reservation rules refer to this group as PwBD, Persons with Benchmark Disability. This page uses PwD throughout, matching how UCEED's own qualifying-formula wording names the category.

This distinction matters practically. A relaxed qualifying formula only decides whether UCEED considers your Part-A score further that year. It says nothing about how many seats your category gets in the final counselling round. It also says nothing about your eventual All India Rank. Category affects UCEED admission at two separate, unconnected points. This page names both separately, rather than blending them into one loose idea of "category cutoff."

UCEED 2027 Sectional Cutoff

UCEED does not run a sectional cutoff. It states that plainly, rather than inventing one. Part-A has three question-type sections: NAT, MSQ and MCQ. The qualifying formula covered above applies to the Part-A total, all 200 marks combined. It does not apply to any one of these three sections on its own.

Scoring low in MSQ alone does not fail a candidate. UCEED checks the combined Part-A total against that year's delta instead. IIT Bombay's brochure sets no official minimum for NAT, MSQ or MCQ individually. Part-B, the hand-drawn Sketching and Design Aptitude questions, sits outside this formula entirely. It only comes into play once a candidate has already cleared the Part-A qualifying bar.

UCEED 2027 Score vs Rank

Once a candidate clears the Part-A qualifying formula, UCEED moves to a completely different calculation: your rank. Part-A (200 marks) and Part-B (100 marks) add up to a total of 300 marks. UCEED converts that combined total directly into an All India Rank. There is no percentile step anywhere in this process.

This is a genuinely useful distinction for a first-time reader, because most large Indian entrance exams do use a percentile. CAT and XAT both convert scores to a percentile. UCEED does not. UCEED expresses your position as a rank number instead, first, second, three-hundredth and so on. This rank is set against every other candidate who sat that year's exam. It is not a percentage of people you scored above.

If two candidates end up on the exact same total marks, UCEED breaks the tie using a fixed order. It checks Part-B marks first, then specific Part-A section scores, as its official brochure lays out. Your own rank appears only inside your individual candidate portal login, once IIT Bombay declares results. The UCEED 2027 result page covers how and when to check it.

UCEED Cutoff 2027 for Top Design Colleges

IIT Bombay does not publish specific closing ranks for any of the seven UCEED institutes. There is no official number to rank them by. Anyone quoting an exact "closing rank for IIT Bombay B.Des" is not using IIT Bombay's own data. IIT Bombay has never made that data public.

IIT Bombay does officially publish one relevant thing: the seat matrix, the number of B.Des seats each institute actually offers. This works as a reasonable, honestly-labelled proxy for how competitive an institute might be. It is not a substitute for an actual closing rank. Fewer seats generally means the counselling process calls fewer ranks before seats fill up. More seats generally means a relatively higher (weaker) All India Rank can still get in. This is a pattern, not a guarantee, since demand for each institute also shifts every year.

Be careful with 'UCEED cutoff rank' numbers online

Any specific institute-wise or category-wise closing rank quoted for UCEED, for any year, traces back to an unofficial aggregator estimate. It never traces back to an IIT Bombay table. This page does not repeat those numbers, because IIT Bombay has never published one to check them against.

IIT Bombay itself, the institute that conducts the exam, sits in the middle of this table on seat count. It is not at the top. IIITDM Jabalpur and IIT Guwahati actually offer more B.Des seats between them than IIT Bombay does. The full seat-by-seat and institute-by-institute breakdown, including which streams each institute accepts, sits on the UCEED 2027 colleges page.

This section states a plain gap rather than filling it with an aggregator's guess. No official past closing-rank data exists to trend against, for UCEED 2026, 2025, or any earlier cycle. IIT Bombay's results page has never published a public rank list. It only ever shows a candidate their own rank, through their own portal login.

This page can honestly trace the qualifying formula's mechanism over time, not its actual number each year. The mean-plus-half-standard-deviation structure for OPEN has held steady across the cycles checked. So has the 0.9x and 0.5x relaxation for other categories. The actual mean and standard deviation change every year instead. They depend entirely on how that year's candidates performed. There is no multi-year "cutoff trend" to chart here the way score-vs-percentile trends work for other exams. Each year genuinely resets the numbers underneath the same formula.

Factors Determining UCEED Cutoff 2027

Your All India Rank

This is the single deciding number in UCEED admission. A lower rank number means a stronger position; rank 1 is the strongest possible outcome. Every seat offer in every counselling round works off this number first.

Your category

Category affects UCEED admission twice over. It works once through the qualifying-cutoff relaxation on Part-A marks (see the Category-Wise Details section above). It works again through the reserved seat share each category draws from the 245-seat matrix.

Your institute and branch preference order

UCEED counselling runs across multiple allotment rounds, and candidates rank their preferred institutes in order before each round. A candidate's own choice order, combined with their All India Rank and category, decides which seat a candidate is offered. It also decides in which round that offer comes.

These three factors work together, not separately. A strong All India Rank still needs the right preference order to actually land a seat at a specific institute. A candidate's category also decides which reserved pool their rank gets compared against at each step.

Every fact here traces back to IIT Bombay's own brochure or portal. Where no official number exists, this page says so plainly, rather than borrowing an aggregator's guess.

Commonly asked questions

Answers to what readers ask most often.

Q: What is the UCEED cutoff for IIT Bombay B.Des?

IIT Bombay does not publish a public closing rank for its B.Des programme, for any year. Admission depends on your All India Rank relative to other applicants in your category. This is compared against the seats IIT Bombay actually offers that year. Your own rank appears only through your individual candidate portal login after results.

Data Sources: Not officially published by IIT Bombay as of 14 September 2026.

Q: Is UCEED cutoff based on percentile or rank?

UCEED admission runs entirely on All India Rank, not a percentile. Your combined Part-A and Part-B marks, out of 300, convert directly into a rank. This is a genuine structural difference from percentile-based exams like CAT.

Data Sources: UCEED official brochure and results mechanism, uceed.iitb.ac.in.

Q: What is the UCEED qualifying-cutoff formula?

For OPEN category, it is the mean plus half the standard deviation of that year's Part-A marks. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates qualify at 0.9 times that figure. SC, ST and PwD candidates qualify at 0.5 times it. UCEED recalculates all three fresh from each year's own results.

Data Sources: UCEED Information Brochure, Section 17, and official FAQ Q22.

Q: Does UCEED have a fixed percentage cutoff, like 40%?

No, UCEED does not use any fixed percentage cutoff. Its qualifying threshold is a statistical formula based on that year's actual mean and standard deviation of Part-A marks. The underlying number changes every year as a result. The brochure does not publish any round percentage.
