SC, ST and PwD students pay no tuition in the UG, M.Tech., MBA and M.Sc. courses. In the Ph.D. the waiver covers SC, ST and PwD scholars on JRF, SRF or RA. Working professionals in the Ph.D. pay Rs 25,000. The IIT Roorkee course fees above include the hostel, a mess advance, semester charges and one-time charges. Each later semester costs less, because the one-time items fall away. The IIT Roorkee fees structure for the later semesters is in the circular for the second year onwards. The IIT Roorkee MBA fee is Rs 2,00,000 a semester in tuition and other charges. SC, ST and PwD students get the Rs 1,00,000 tuition waived, but pay the Rs 1,00,000 other charges. The first Autumn total is Rs 2,55,550 for General, EWS and OBC students, and Rs 1,55,550 for SC, ST and PwD students. The IIT Roorkee total fees for the two-year MBA are about Rs 9.74 lakh for a General hosteller.
The IIT Roorkee M.Tech. fee is Rs 5,000 a semester in tuition. The first Autumn total is Rs 66,400. The IIT Roorkee course fee for the full two years is about Rs 2.18 lakh for a General hosteller. Students admitted with GATE and an MoE assistantship also get a monthly stipend, which the scholarship page explains.
Sponsored M.Tech. students pay Rs 25,000 a semester in tuition. That is higher than the Rs 5,000 that other M.Tech. students pay.

Foreign nationals pay tuition of Rs 1,00,000 if they are among the top 20 ranked joiners from the listed countries. The other foreign nationals pay Rs 2,00,000 and a total of Rs 2,55,550 in the first Autumn semester. The IIT Roorkee B.Tech fee has four parts: tuition, semester charges, the hostel and the mess. A General, OBC or EWS entrant paid Rs 1,30,550 before registration in 2026. The institute adjusted Rs 25,000 of the seat acceptance fee against the Rs 1,55,550 bill. The other Rs 5,000 of the Rs 30,000 was a processing charge. SC, ST and PwD students paid Rs 45,550, after adjusting Rs 10,000 of their Rs 15,000 fee. The hostel costs Rs 7,500 a semester at IIT Roorkee for a UG student. The mess advance adds Rs 21,750. These IIT Roorkee fees are part of the grand totals above. M.Tech. and Ph.D. students pay a higher hostel rate. Their hostel is Rs 9,000 a semester and the mess advance is Rs 26,100. Every student also pays semester charges, which are part of the IIT Roorkee course fee. These are Rs 7,000 for establishment, Rs 1,500 for medical insurance and Rs 300 for the Career Development Cell. Miscellaneous charges are Rs 2,500 a semester.
The IIT Roorkee hostel fee is Rs 7,500 a semester for UG students. It has Rs 5,000 for accommodation and Rs 2,500 for electricity. First-year boys got Rajendra Bhawan and first-year girls got Sarojini Bhawan in 2026. Parents cannot stay in the hostel rooms.
Books, travel, personal spending and meals outside the mess are not part of the IIT Roorkee fees details above. The mess advance is adjusted to your actual food bill. The accommodation and electricity charges are not refunded if you switch to the non-dining, non-residing category after paying.
You pay IIT Roorkee fees online, each semester, before you register. New UG entrants of 2026 followed the dates below. Only the one-time charges and the deposits are paid once, at admission. The UG fee section is at feesection@iitr.ac.in.

The first semester of the 2026 UG batch started.
No, the circular has no separate instalment plan for IIT Roorkee fees. You pay the bill for each semester in one payment before you register. The IIT Roorkee fees structure has no payment in parts for a semester. Ask the fee section about a bank loan before the due date. The JoSAA seat acceptance fee counts toward the first Autumn bill, as the entry above shows.
The tuition fee waiver can cut IIT Roorkee fees by two thirds or in full, but other charges stay. Full waiver is for family income below Rs 1 lakh. A two-thirds waiver is for income from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. The 2026-27 scheme covers General, EWS and OBC students.
A Waived Student Still Pays Other Charges
IIT Roorkee fees with a full waiver are Rs 55,550 in the first Autumn semester. The hostel, mess and semester charges remain.
Not the full bill. The tuition waiver covers tuition. Free messing for SC and ST students with income up to Rs 5 lakh covers the mess and the hostel rent. Other charges, such as the Rs 11,300 semester charges, remain unless a private scholarship covers them. So IIT Roorkee fees never fall to zero. The Senate Committee for Scholarships and Prizes runs these schemes, and the IIT Roorkee scholarship page lists every one.
The UG circulars list refundable deposits but print no withdrawal policy. The Rs 1,000 caution deposit, the Rs 2,000 library deposit and the Rs 2,000 mess security are refundable. The one-time mess admission fee of Rs 4,000 is not listed as refundable. The IIT Roorkee fees structure lists no other refund. Before you withdraw, write to ugadmission@iitr.ac.in and ask how IIT Roorkee fees are treated.

The MBA brochure says no fee is refunded after registration. Only the security and the unused mess balance come back. If you withdraw before registration, the institute deducts a processing fee of Rs 1,000. Seat withdrawal for UG courses goes through JoSAA, and its rules apply.
