What is an English proficiency test?

English proficiency tests are a way to analyze a candidate’s English speaking skills along with comprehension skills. These are often undertaken by organizations and educational institutions.
Among IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE, the PTE has sections, especially for measuring the speaking skills of the candidates. This makes it easier than the other language proficiency tests.
TOEFL is widely accepted by universities and colleges as evidence of English language proficiency for international students. It’s important to note that the acceptance of specific tests may vary depending on the institution or the purpose of the test (e.g., admission to a university, visa application, employment, etc.)

The following are the steps to apply for English proficiency tests

Step 1 – Choose the test

Step 2 – Create an account on the official website of the desired test

Step 3 – Register for the test and select the date and location for it

Step 4 – Pay the fees and submit the registration form

Taking multiple practice tests, downloading fun learning materials, writing journals, and reading newspapers to enhance vocabulary are some effective ways candidates can prepare for English proficiency tests.

IELTS is a widely accepted language proficiency test in Canadian universities, colleges, and immigration authorities for study and immigration purposes.

The Duolingo English Test is considered one of the more affordable English proficiency tests. It is often perceived as cheaper compared to tests like TOEFL or IELTS.
