Civil engineers work on the design and construction of buildings and structures, highways, bridges, water supply and treatment systems.

This programme will equip you with the skills you need to work as a civil engineering technologist, carrying out much of the detailed analytical and design specifications in a building project. You’ll develop your mathematical and analytical skills to solve many of the problems encountered in the broader civil engineering industry.

Each year of the programme is delivered over two semesters with examinations at the end of each semester.

At the end of Year 2, you can choose either Civil/Environmental or Structural Engineering options for Year 3.

Work Placement

During the summer after Year 2, you can undertake a work placement with an engineering employer. On successful completion of this placement, you can use this work-based learning to accumulate a 5 ECTS module, which can be considered in your academic record in Year 3.

On successful completion, you can also continue your studies on a Level 8 programme either in TU Dublin or elsewhere. And, if you successfully complete Year 2 and do not wish to progress to third year, you’ll receive a Higher Certificate award.

Bolton Street campus has been a centre for technological education for over 100 years. This three storey neo-classical building was designed by CJ McCarthy and was built in 1908. It has since been extend in 1961 and again in 1987. Plaster representations of artisan figures decorate the hallway and corridors of this ornate building. The figures are casts from John Henry Foley's models for figures at the base of the Albert Memorial on Leinster Lawn. Despite substantial extensions, the essential historic character of the building has been maintained and the building forms an important part of the surrounding streetscape. The campus is fully equipped with computer and electronic labs, lecture theatres with the latest audio- visual equipment and learning aids, fully equipped workshops, library, restaurants, students’ union area, and student recreation area.
