The Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program provides an integrated, comprehensive curriculum to prepare graduates for medical school, graduate degree programs and careers in biotechnology and related industries. UNFC students who complete 120 credits at UNFC Biomedical science degree will receive full MD Year 1 transfer credits towards their MD program at Medical University of the Americas or Saba University School of Medicine. Upon successful completion UNFC Biomedical Science program graduates will progress to 2nd year of MD program at one of those two medical schools. Through our partnership with Saba University School of Medicine and Medical University of the Americas, UNF is proud to be able to offer students studying our BSc Biomedical Sciences degree the option to elect our pre-med pathway. This pathway has been developed in full collaboration with the academic teams of our partner medical schools and, on successful completion of the BSc Biomedical Sciences Degree with a GPA of 3.0 or greater will allow graduates direct entry into year 2 of the MD program in any of our two partner medical schools. The Pre-med pathway will require students to undertake to specific ‘Clinic Skills 1 and 2’ courses as their elective choices in their final year of the Biomedical Sciences program as all other courses have been mapped and learning outcome/objectives covered by the core curriculum for the MD program. The labour market for biomedical sciences graduates is promising, with significant growth expected. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) predicts a 52.2% growth in health occupations and a 38.9% growth in natural and applied sciences by 2028, resulting in 1.4 million new opportunities.
