IT Sligo has designed a new Bachelor of Education Honours in Early Education and Care, which focuses on children’s early education and care needs from birth to 6 years of age.
According to the institution, the new program was launched as a way to adapt to the changing needs of children and their families and to help the early learning and care (ELC) sector.
IT Sligo is one of three higher education institutions in Ireland that offers this specialized education program.
In recent years, the ELC sector has advocated for a greater understanding of their position in the various complicated obligations of delivering high-quality services to ensure children’s learning, development, and well-being.
STEAM modules have been produced, and all graduates will receive a Digital Badge based on Universal Design for Learning principles.
Students in the new program will study numerous courses concentrating on this crucial component of children’s lives, including Outdoor and Nature-Based Play, Children’s Play, and Pedagogy.
Assignments in various ELC services, such as center-based programs, County Childcare Committees, and primary schools, have traditionally been an important part of the program, with students completing two 13-week placements in their second and third years.
