The Institute of Technology Sligo (IT Sligo) hosted the 2022 Sports Scholarship and Sports Bursary Award ceremony, honoring the 26 first-time Sports Scholars and five new Flexible/Online Learning Sports Bursary recipients.
The bursary award ceremony was the first in-person award event in over two years owing to the pandemic, and it was the final IT Sligo Sports Scholarship award ceremony before it merged with its partners Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) and Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) to become Atlantic Technological University (ATU).

This year, a record 68 sports scholarships were awarded, continuing a trend of increasing the number of Sports Scholarships offered to full-time students across a wide range of sports. Scholarship, Silver, and Gold are the three levels of scholarship offered.
A unique Sports Bursary Program for flexible or online learners was introduced at IT Sligo, marking a first for the institution. Bursary recipients come from a wide range of sports, ages, and geographical places around the country.
Bursary and Bursary Plus levels are available for the new Flexible / Online Learners Sports Bursary.
IT Sligo continues to recognize a wide range of sports, including rowing, cycling, and pole sport, as well as sports that were recognized for the first time this year.
IT Sligo Sports Scholarships
The IT Sligo Sports Scholarship Program aims to help talented student-athletes achieve their full athletic potential.
Each academic year, up to 70 sports scholarships are given out. IT Sligo’s sports scholars receive free use of the sports facilities, academic help, and IT Sligo branded sports scholarship clothing in addition to financial support.
The application period for the academic year 2022-2023 is currently open. The application deadline is Sept. 15, 2021.
Applicants who are applying for the first time to study at IT Sligo are advised to apply as soon as possible, preferably by May 1, so that they can be evaluated for the full range of perks available, including the 10% bonus CAO points for admittance to IT Sligo.
