Beginning next month, on Feb. 7, University Canada West (UCW) will resume the comprehensive on-campus classes in accordance with other public and private institutions in British Columbia.
Sheldon Levy, UCW Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, said they are happy to be welcoming students, faculty, and staff back to campus, with their main goal being the health and safety of the university community.
UCW’s full return to in-person classes is rooted in the recommendation of Dr. Bonnie Henry, the BC Provincial Health Officer, that on-campus learning be reinstated.
All on-campus personnel and instructors will be fully vaccinated, and masks will be required in all classrooms and common spaces as a precaution.
While UCW cannot mandate students to be vaccinated, the institution strongly encourages students to do so before returning to campus.
Students who have not had all of their vaccinations or choose not to report their immunization status will be required to take a COVID-19 quick test each week they are on campus.
Next week, the new COVID-19 safety plan will be available on the UCW website. At that time, more information about the return to campus will be given to all UCW students, employees, and professors.
The Senior Leadership Team at UCW will keep a close eye on the situation and any announcements from BC’s Provincial Health Officer to make any necessary revisions to the safety plan.
