Student Guide Stay Safe While Studying in Spain

Best Ways To Travel in Spain as an International Student

For beautiful countries like Spain, academics are just a small part of the study journey. The best way to truly learn is to get yourself out there and see the world from a different perspective.

Traveling in Spain is the perfect combination of life-long learning with loads of fun. Plus, it is a great way to make memories that will last for a lifetime.

Sentimentality aside, the key to enjoying your travels is knowing how to get there. Study these transport modes so you’ll know the best ways to travel in Spain:

Taking the Bus: Best for Getting to Rural Areas the Cheap Way

Many bus companies are operating in Spain that connect major cities to rural areas. These routes often extend to smaller towns, making it the best choice for weekday travel.

To take buses, your best bet is to hop on one through bus stations. As for the ticket, you can either buy them in advance but the most common way is buying one directly from the bus driver.

Taking the bus is great if you want to finish casual errands such as grocery shopping or visiting a clinic. But for longer distances, you may be more comfortable in a train or a rented car.

Boarding the Train: Best for Speedy Long Travels in Comfort

Getting onto a train is best if you want to cross the country and get to your destinations fast. Although it’s a bit pricier than buses, the level of comfort you get is priceless.

The first train system you should take note of is RENFE. As the national network of trains in Spain, it’s one of the best ways to get into major cities and even suburban areas.

If comfort is your concern, you won’t have to worry because RENFE trains have been modernized for passengers. Today, it’s one of the most efficient systems you can enjoy for mass transit.

For faster trips, Spain also has a high-speed train network called  AVE. If you board their trains, you can get from Barcelona to Madrid in a little under three hours only.

If you must take the train for your travels, advance ticket booking is a must. Plus, you can also score discounts if you book your ticket early.

Renting a Car: Best for a Private Riding Experience

Renting a car is best if you want to be in control of everything. You’ll be the master of your routes, pacing, and you can even get to areas that both buses and trains can’t reach.

This option may also be best if you need a service to and from the airport. It just takes the hassle off of carrying your luggage from various stops.

Renting a personal car for your travels is the most expensive option. But if privacy and utmost comfort are what you value, then you’ll get your money’s worth.

As you can tell, the best way to travel around Spain depends on your preferences and needs as a traveler. If you want to learn more about this, take a look at our articles here at MSM Unify.
