MSM Unify AUs Intl Economic Relations Program Offers 2 Masters Degrees at SIS

Au’s Int’l Economic Relations Program Offers 2 Master’s Degrees At Sis

American University’s School of International Service (SIS) offers master’s degrees that aim to provide students with training in international trade and finance, statistics, and econometrics.

The MA in International Economic Relations (MAIER) and the MA in International Economic Relations: Quantitative Methods (MAIER:QM) are two master’s degrees offered by the International Economic Relations Department at SIS.

Key Takeaways:

  • Students can pursue master’s degrees in international trade and finance, statistics, and econometrics at American University.
  • Two master’s degrees are offered: the MA in International Economic Relations (MAIER) and the MA in International Economic Relations: Quantitative Methods (MAIER:QM).
  • The two master’s degrees offered by SIS allow students to gain topical expertise, apply a flexible and multidisciplinary approach, and develop leadership skills.

The MAIER degree allows students to focus on a substantive policy-oriented concentration, such as development or environmental policy, specialized topics in trade, investment, and finance, among others.

The new MAIER:QM degree, on the other hand, focuses on quantitative measurement and statistical and mathematical data analysis.

Because of its emphasis on advanced quantitative methods, MAIER:QM qualifies as a STEM degree under Department of Homeland Security requirements. Engineering, biological sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related discipline are included in this STEM designation.

As a STEM degree, this program allows international students with the degree to extend their optional practical training (OPT) in the United States for an additional 24 months.

SIS’s two master’s degrees provide students with the opportunity to acquire topical expertise, take a flexible and multidisciplinary approach, obtain practical experience, and develop quantitative abilities in addition to preparing them for professions in their fields of interest.
