Canada is known for having the strictest quarantine measures for incoming travelers. The Public Health of Canada, through its close monitoring, noted an alarming surge of cases in both India and Pakistan, forcing them to restrict entry of individuals coming from India and Pakistan.
India has breached the 18-million mark of COVID-19 cases, recording close to 400,000 new cases within 24 hours, with many of its citizens struggling to access oxygen and medical care. Its neighboring country, Pakistan, similarly recorded a record-high of 200 deaths in 24 hours since the pandemic began.
Given the dire situation and the increasing number of cases in Canada, effective April 22, 2021, 23:30 EDT, all commercial and private flights from India and Pakistan are suspended for 30 days or until May 21, 2021. This travel ban is a temporary measure implemented by the government to ensure the country’s healthcare system will not be overwhelmed by the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Note: This recent announcement affects all international students who need to be in Canada for their summer classes.
